Waffling on the issue

Many of you know how much we Rayguns love a good pancake.

Well, there's a new breakfast food around here to love. I brought out the waffle iron this weekend, and it was a wild success.

As I plugged it in, I was very doubtful about my waffling prowess. The last time I attempted them, the batter basically just glued itself to the waffle iron and did not result in anything remotely edible. (I think it was too thin.) And boy howdy -- getting glued-on batter off a waffle iron is no easy task. I was so disheartened, I put the appliance away and it hasn't seen the light of day for two whole years.

This weekend, I summoned my courage and made some whole wheat oatmeal pancakes. The batter did not turn to glue! We could actually eat the results! Success!

But I'm a little sad for my friend the pancake. I think my trusty pancake recipes will be put on the back burner for a while, and my griddle may get a little dusty.

But it's time the waffle iron and I get re-acquainted.

  1. I am so hopeless at pancake making. It's weird to me that I cannot master the pancake. So, as you can imagine, I am terrified to try waffles. Plus my mother convinced us as children that waffle making was incredibly difficult. Maybe we'll come over to your house.

  2. Nice work! Waffles are a very big deal in our family. In fact the waffle iron (much to my dismay somedays) generally lives on the counter. However Matt will ONLY eat the waffle batter from Bisquick, but I'd love to try your reciepe! I'll have to get it from you and just not tell him about the batter.
