During today's rocking routine pre-Quiet Time, Kellan was especially antsy. He did a lot of singing, talking, fiddling with my hair, etc. I nearly gave up. Finally, I wrapped him in an additional blanket -- the sock monkey quilt -- hoping some additional warmth would help him nod off. He quieted down for a minute or so, then began singing again -- even more loudly. So I told him to stop singing the song out loud, and just think about it in his head. Then I started rocking like a crazy person.
The rocking chair is old and used enough that it creaks when you really get into it, and I used the squeaking to my advantage. The repetitive moaning and groaning of the chair -- combined with the extra cuddliness of the quilt -- added up to just the right Quiet Time combination.
